WATERBURY Mrs. Evelyn Bessie (Riddick) Beamon, 83, of 29 Calumet St., passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was the widow of Robert Cecil Beamon.

Mrs. Beamon was born March 29, 1926, in Gatesville, N.C., a daughter of the late Paul and Nettie (Matthews) Riddick. She was employed at Scovill Manufacturing Co. until she retired. She enjoyed reading and was very much interested in the political scene. She was very active in the community. She was a mentor for the Teenagers Club at Berkeley Heights, volunteered at Kingsbury School and was an avid fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. She also helped organize the first black blood donation drive held in Waterbury. She was a member of the Thrifty Ten Club and a longtime member of the Zion Baptist Church.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her sons, Robert Beamon Jr. and Paul Beamon, both of Waterbury, Baron Beamon and his wife, Nydia, of Spring Hill, Fla., Ross Beamon and his wife, Michele, of Danbury; her daughters, Andrea Heyward, Michele Beamon and Thalia McElrath, all of Waterbury, Nicole Negron of Fort Myers, Fla.; her sisters, Grace Taylor and her husband, Thomas, of Waterbury, Ola Mae Mitchell of Waterbury; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Joan Leach and Lorraine Beamon; special lifelong friends, Adrienne Ricketts and Carrie Rodgers; her daughters-in-law, Tina and Linda; her sons-in-law, Ricky, James and Will; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. A son, Sidney Beamon, a granddaughter, Chavonne Beamon, two sisters, Suzie McFarland, her twin sister, Elsie Lessie Trotman, and a brother, Linwood Riddick, are deceased.

Arrangements: Funeral service 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl St. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hour 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at the church. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
