Frances C. "Fannie" Richardson, the first women's editor of THE DECATUR DAILY, died today at her Mooresville residence.

A memorial service for Mrs. Richardson, 77, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Charlie McKimmon officiating.

A private interment will be later with Brown Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Richardson was born and raised in Clarksdale, Miss, and graduated from the University of Alabama. She came to work for THE DAILY in 1954. She originated the Chatterbox column, which continues today. Mrs. Richardson also conducted theater and travel tours for the newspaper before retiring in 1965.

She was involved in numerous charitable organizations in the Decatur area. Mrs. Richardson also was involved in preserving the Old State Bank building in Decatur.

She is survived by her husband, Frank T. Richardson Jr; one son, Frank T. Richardson III of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Frances C. Richardson II of Madison; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
