Erma Jessie Brown, 102, of Nampa, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at a Nampa hospital of natural causes. She was born Aug. 11, 1904, at Wallowa, Ore., to Obediah L. Rich and Nellie Ferguson Rich. Her father was an early pioneer having crossed the Oregon Trail as a small boy and settling in Eastern Oregon. Erma was married to Dell Lee Brown on May 2, 1921. They were married for 49 years when he passed away in 1970. Together they had four children, three girls and one boy. Her husband worked in the woods and spent his last years as a shoemaker in Pendleton, Ore., and Erma assisted him in the shop. She had learned to tat and crochet when quite small and continued to do this all of her life. Erma won a grand champion prize at the Canyon County Fair with a tablecloth at the age of 95. She also had sewn for family and others during her lifetime. Erma was a member of the Canyon Hill Church of the Nazarene since 1973. She had taught Sunday school, played the piano and taken part in other activities in the Nazarene church for many years. Erma will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She had a unique sense of humor and was always cheerful and loving. She dearly loved her family and was concerned about each one of them. Many hours were spent together playing games and at family parties which she always enjoyed. On her 100th birthday a family reunion was held with more than 80 in attendance from Alaska, Virginia, Oregon and California. She traveled some after her husband's death. She traveled across the country to Virginia to visit her son and to Alaska and California to visit her daughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Juanita Bayless, and son Capt. Ronald Brown. Her remaining daughters are Mrs. Bill Gray, (Dena Jean) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lela M. Lunday of Nampa. She has 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 35 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, with Rev. Marshall Vaughn officiating. Services will conclude at the chapel. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
