Venna was born in Vernal on July 30, 1928, to Jesse Edward Richins and Rosa Gurr Richins. She was the twin sister to Kenneth Ray Richins. They were the eighth and ninth children of 10. Venna married Arthur Barrett on Nov. 9, 1990, in the Jordan River Temple. Arthur passed away in 2001.
Venna was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Venna lived all of her life in the Davis Ward area, except for one year in Louisiana with Art and his family. Venna had a good life. She endured many hardships. She lost her twin brother and other family members in the Bonanza Mine explosion and her mother died in 1965. She then cared for her father, Jess Richins, and uncle, Frank Richins, until both their deaths.
She was a good homemaker and loved to cook, and she loved her dogs and cats. She loved little kids and enjoyed going to the Golden Age Center, where she played bingo — her favorite game. She made many friends at the Golden Age Center. She had great neighbors who helped her so much with everything in her life. They will be forever appreciated.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father and mother, siblings; Besse Richins Chivers, Gladys Richins Buist, Marvel Richins Smuin, Archie Richins, William Richins, Leona Richins Bowthorpe, Kenneth Richins, and Doris Richins Goodman.
She is survived by her brother Lyle Richins of Steamboat Springs, Colo., her brother-in-law Marlo Bowthorpe of Vernal, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Davis 1st Ward Chapel, 3990 S. 1500 East, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, with a viewing one hour prior to services.
The family would like to thank the Uintah Care Center for all of their years of service and friendship to Venna
