September 27, 1933 - April 1, 2016

William G. Rice, PRC USN Ret, died Friday, April 1, 2016 at his home with his family at his side. He was born September 27, 1933 to Elmer and Pearl Rice in Amigo, West Virginia. After graduating from STOCO High School in 1951 he joined the Navy to see the world, and he saw much of it from the decks of Aircraft carriers. After almost 24 years he retired and started a second career at NARFE at NAS Pensacola. Retiring again in 1995 he spent many hours tending a large garden growing wonderful vegetables. He loved being at home. He was a long time member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Robert L. Rice. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, S. Joanne Gentry Rice and his son Michael D. Rice and his stepchildren; Morgan, Stephen, Chasity, Shelby, John and Keith; two brothers, Elmer Rice Jr. (Marietta) of Sophia, WV and Larry Rice (Tina) of Oak Hill, WV. A sister-in-law Juanita Murphy, Sophia WV and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life will be from 11:30am – 1:30pm on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Please join his family and friends there. Inurnment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery will a graveside Service by the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 22 with full military honors at 2:05pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fleet reserve Association, Pensacola Branch 22, PO Box 3144, Pensacola, FL 32516-3144 for Scholarship/Welfare projects or Emerald Coast Hospice, 1555 North Palafox St. Pensacola, FL 32501 or a favorite charity.
