Obituary:
Funeral Services to Be Held at Blackville
Mrs Adeline E Thomson died at the home of her daughter in this city Saturday morning, after a brief illness. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs Pauline Gerald, of Columbia; one sister, Mrs C L Rush of Blackville; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mrs Thomson was born Feb 2, 1825, in Barnwell county, where she spent the greater part of her life. She was married in 1840 to the late Wm H Thomson, a prominent lawyer of the low country, and at the time of her death was the oldest living member of the old Daniel family, well known throughout the State.
Mrs Thomson was also the oldest living alumna of Salem college, Winston-Salem, NC, and it was the custom of the student body of that institution to wire her greetings on the anniversary of her birthday. Many were the interesting tales of her girlhood days at Salem, where, with her father, she went by private conveyance over primitive roads and in the same way returned.
Mrs Thomson was a woman of unusually bright mind and strength of character. She took a deep interest in general affairs ad the trials of life never embittered the natural sweetness of her disposition. Her life was one of service, well spent, and in her old age she was a pleasure to all around her. The funeral services will be held today at Blackville. [Published in The State, Feb 2, 1914.
