Mary "Rum" (Rhomberg) Bailey, 74, of Stonehill Care Center, died at 8:55 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at the care center, following a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with her brother, the Rev. Thomas Rhomberg, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Bailey worked in Chicago as a medical technician and later was the administrator of Heritage Manor in Dubuque for many years until her retirement.

She was born on April 19, 1931, in Dubuque, daughter of Joseph and Madeline (Enzler) Rhomberg. She married Edward A. Bailey on April 29, 1961, at St. Clement's Church, Chicago; he preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2001.

She graduated from the former Visitation Academy and Clarke College. She later received her master in business administration degree from Clarke.

Mary was a very avid and accomplished tennis player.

She was an active member of Dubuque County Right to Life, the National Republican Party and St. Anthony Parish, where she served in many areas.

She was very devoted to her family, especially her mother, who she was with every day until her death. She also lovingly cared for her husband, Edward, until his death.

Surviving are two sons, Bill (Ann) Bailey, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and John Bailey, of Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Suzy Bailey and Mary Bailey, both of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Emily, Noah, Grace and Sam; four brothers, the Rev. Thomas Rhomberg, Jack (Alice) Rhomberg and William (Mary) Rhomberg, all of Dubuque, and Joseph (Lavarr) Rhomberg, of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.
