Opal Joyce Austin was born on April 17, 1939 in Red Bird, OK to the late Arsbie J. and Naomi Reynolds. She publicy confessed to Christ at the age of nine at First Baptist Church. She graduated from Miller Washington High School.
In Fort Ord, CA, she entered holy matrimony to career serviceman Cary Austin. During Cary's army career, Joyce worked on the military bases as an U.S. government civil service employee. The Austins retired to Arcola, TX.
Joyce began a second career as a co-owner of the Shepherd and Sheep Christian Bookstore in Missouri City, TX. Joyce zealously loved and ministered to her customers for 15 years. After retiring from the bookstore, Joyce cherished home-making and fellowshipping with ther family. She enjoyed fishing and traveling with her husband.
Joyce was an active member of New St. Phillip MBC. She worked as the finance secretary for several years and loved participating in the Sunday School ministry until her illness.
Mrs. Austin leaves behind her husband, Cary Austin; children Carla Austin, Shari Buggs, and Michael Austin if Missouri City, TX; grandchildren LaToya (Jonathan) Harris Sacramento, CA and Michelle Buggs of Missouri City, TX; three great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons; brothers and sisters-Addy B. Walton of Dallas, TX; Charles L.B.(Jean) Reynolds of Dallas, TX; Ann (C.J.) Frank of Houston, TX; Arsbie "Fella" Reynolds, Jr. of Dallas, TX; Peggy Reynolds of Tulsa, OK; Carolyn (Dan) Allen of Missouri City, TX; Richard (Kaye) Reynolds of Houston, TX; Brenda Adams of Houston, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny Mae Thomas of Cedar Lane, TX; Herman Austin of Cedar LAne, TX; James Ellis (Bonnie) Austin of Pflugerville, TX, and many other loving and caring family and dear friends.
