Ruby Juanita was born to Adeline Powell and Robert Jackson Reynolds. She grew up in the Iowa Park, Wichita Falls area of Texas.
She married William Crawford Erwin at age 16. They had 11 children. They moved back to the Irving area and lived until 1970, then returned to Wichita Falls where William Crawford died in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ardith J. and Patrick M. Reynolds, and sister Mary Ruth Reynolds; children Robert Lee and Marvin E. Erwin; and 2nd husband Elmer Reed.
