Carroll D. Rexroat, 80, of Dallas, Texas, and formerly of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at Hearthstone Assisted Living Facility in Dallas. He was born March 8, 1926, in Jacksonville, the son of William Bailey and Ruth Henderson Rexroat. He is survived by one daughter, Karen (husband, William) Danner of Jacksonville; one son, David (wife, Laura) Rexroat of Dallas; six grandchildren, Amy (husband, Brett) Rohlk, Carrie Danner, Laura Rexroat, Mary Rexroat, David Rexroat, and Andrew Rexroat; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Rexroat was a building contractor, land developer, and farmer. He owned and developed local properties including the Douglas Hotel and Village Health Club, and owned the Steak N Shake property. Years ago he developed and built the homes in the Lake View Terrace subdivision. He recently enjoyed growing sweet corn and selling it at the Farmer's Market. Mr. Rexroat attended the University of Illinois and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, and was a member of the Jacksonville Elks Club, Kiwanis Club, and Jacksonville Jaycees.
