Burton J. "Bert" Resnik, 90, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died August 10, 2011 at Los Alamitos Hospital. He was with loved ones when he passed.
Bert was an award-winning journalist who spent nearly forty years at the Press-Telegram, becoming the assistant managing editor.
Known for his weekly entertainment column, "Bert's Eye View" as well as hard-hitting interviews with California Governor, Earl Warren, and famed comedienne, Lucille Ball, Bert was celebrated both for his talent and his versatility.
Bert was born July 25, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Harry and Eva Resnik. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II as a private first class and spent twenty-four months in the South Pacific.
After returning to Long Beach in 1948, he began writing for the Press-Telegram while raising three children with his wife, Annette.
Following a long and fruitful career in journalism, Bert retired in 1989 in order to spend more time with his children and grandchildren.
Bert is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Annette; son, Brian Resnik; daughter, Eve Resnik Beutler; and grandchildren, Dahvia, Kiptyn, and Bryce.
He was known as "Grandpa" and "Great Grandpa" to fourteen other close family members and brought kindness, joy, and humor wherever he went. His memory will always be treasured in the hearts of those who knew him.
