Audrey Ruth Faye Frey Resnik, 52, a mental health nurse and a co-founder in 1975 of Associated Mental Health Professionals, a group practice in College Park, Gaithersburg and Bethesda, died Jan. 3 at Suburban Hospital of cytomegalic virus, a disease of the blood system.
Mrs. Resnik, who lived in Chevy Chase, was born in Bloomsburg, Pa. She trained as a registered nurse at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and received a bachelor's degree in nursing from the State University of New York at Buffalo. With her husband, Dr. Harvey Lewis Paul Resnik, she did further study at the Reproductive Biology Research Foundation in St. Louis. They settled in the Washington area in 1970.
In 1975, Mrs. Resnik took part in starting the Bethesda-based Human Behavior Foundation, a nonprofit foundation for research into mental health problems. She was vice president and director of the foundation.
She accompanied her husband to Brussels in 1986 and worked there as a mental health nurse at the International School.
On returning to this area in 1987, Mrs. Resnik was director of volunteers for Crossway, a residential facility for abused women and children. Most recently, she was founding director and secretary of the board of directors of the Belgian American Association.
She had been vice president of the sisterhood at Beth-El Congregation in Bethesda. She was a winner of the Golda Meir Award for her work as its representative to a program for the homeless.
In addition to her husband, whom she married in 1964, of Chevy Chase, survivors include three children, Rebecca Gabrielle Resnik of Keene, N.H., and Henry Seth Maccabee Resnik and Jessica Ruth Resnik, both of Chevy Chase; a brother, Larry Frey of Acworth, Ga.; and two sisters, Gwen Rostucher of Bloomsburg, Pa., and Brenda DeLuca of Latrobe, Pa.
