Johanna Mary Rensing was born and raised in Belleville, Illinois, the oldest daughter of John Henry Rensing and Mary Elizabeth Stauder. As a young woman Johanna worked as a telephone operator in Belleville. This is the only known employment that I have been able to identify.
Jenny was a typical German mother, admired and loved by all of her children. She was quite old fashioned, which was typical of all her sisters. Physically she was a large woman, I guess she could be referred to as rather sedate. To her sons she was a very handsome woman.
She was a very religious woman who visited church often, where she felt totally at ease and at home.
Her only other passion was shopping, although she seldom bought. I would think she was mainly a window shopper due to a very frugal nature.
When she and her husband moved to Bellefontaine Neighbors she always seemed to feel uncomfortable, and didn't care for the area, especially her home which she often referred to as haunted. I would tend to believe that she was a lonesome woman who had been removed from her familiar surroundings and her parish with out nearby transportation.
