Johanna Mary Rensing was born and raised in Belleville, Illinois, the oldest daughter of John Henry Rensing and Mary Elizabeth Stauder. As a young woman Johanna worked as a telephone operator in Belleville. This is the only known employment that I have been able to identify.

Jenny was a typical German mother, admired and loved by all of her children. She was quite old fashioned, which was typical of all her sisters. Physically she was a large woman, I guess she could be referred to as rather sedate. To her sons she was a very handsome woman.

She was a very religious woman who visited church often, where she felt totally at ease and at home.

Her only other passion was shopping, although she seldom bought. I would think she was mainly a window shopper due to a very frugal nature.

When she and her husband moved to Bellefontaine Neighbors she always seemed to feel uncomfortable, and didn't care for the area, especially her home which she often referred to as haunted. I would tend to believe that she was a lonesome woman who had been removed from her familiar surroundings and her parish with out nearby transportation.

"Mrs. Johanna Buchholz, 70 year old sister of three Belleville residents died at 1:00 yesterday afternoon at the Deaconess Hospital, St. Louis following a illness of ten days.

"Mrs. Buchholz who resided at 1106 Donnell Ave., St. Louis County was a native of Belleville and a daughter of John and Mary Rensing nee Stauder. Mr. Rensing was Sexton at Walnut Hill Cemetery for many years.

"Survivors include her husband William G. Buchholz, president of the Buchholz Mortuaries, St. Louis, four sons John (Bud) Buchholz at home, Frank, Cletus and Wilfred Buchholz all of St. Louis, a daughter Mrs. Marcella Reising, St. Louis; a brother Oscar Rensing, 422 Park Ave. and two sisters, Miss Frances Rensing 813 E. McKinley Street;, Mrs. Michael Walter, 806 E. McKinley Street; all of Belleville; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Buchholz was a member of various civic and social organizations.

"Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Buchholz Mortuary, 5967 W. Florissant Ave., St. Louis to Our Lady of Good Council Church, 1134 St. Cyr Road, where the Rev. William Rensing, assistant pastor of St. Peter's Cathedral will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Mausoleum."
