Former Auxiliary of the Mission de France o Pontigny and Bishop of the Titular See of Utimma, Monsignor Jean Rémond was born on July 9, 1922, in Charolles, France, and was ordained to the Priesthood at 27 years of age on March 25, 1950.
Named Director of the Parisian Region of the Mission de France in 1966, and later its Secretary General in 1972, Pope Paul VI appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of the Territorial Prelature of the Mission de France o Pontigny at 52 years of age, receiving his Episcopal Consecration with the Titular See of Utimma on June 14, 1975, from Cardinal Gabriel Auguste François Marty, assisted by Bishop Jacques Le Cordier and Archbishop Marius-Félix-Antoine Maziers.
Resigning from Office at 65 years of age on December 21, 1987, the Bishop rendered further services within the Diocese of Valence, taking care among others of the formation of Lay People.
Since 1997, he lived in retirement at the Maison de Retraite des Prêtres at Autun, where he passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2009, aged 86. His Solemn Funeral Mass, presided by Msgr. Yves Patenôtre, Prelate of the Mission de France o Pontigny was celebrated on Wednesday, February 25, at the Parish Church of Charolles, Saône et Loire.
