Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha DeWitt were held Sunday, Jan. 30, in the chapel of the Barkley-Davis Funeral home in Canton, with the Rev. Robert Morrison, pastor of the Canton Methodist church, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Robert Ayers at the organ. Pall bearers were Delbert Reiter, Williard Reiter, Ebert Reiter, Ernie Baker, Charles Brown and Jim Rogers. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery. Mrs. DeWitt died Friday, Jan. 28, in the Prairie View rest home near Lewistown. Bertha Lorena Reiter DeWitt, the daughter of William and Ellen Elizabeth Bick Reiter, was born near Canton on July 1, 1881. She was married to Marvin DeWitt at Monticello on Oct. 4, 1911. They farmed near Canton until the death of Mr. DeWitt. She then worked at Capp's Variety store in Canton for a number of years. She was a member of the Immanuel United Methodist church in Canton. Survivors include a son, James Marvin DeWitt of Canton; six grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Reiter of Canton; two sisters, Mrs. Pete Schafer, LaGrange, and Mrs. Jennie Schafer Musgrove of Canton; nieces and nephews; cousins; and other relatives. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.
