Mme. Mary Isabel Jennings di Cesnola, the wife of General Louis P. Cesnola, director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, died early yesterday morning at her home, No.109 East fifty-seventh-st., from heart disease.
Mme. Di Cesnola was born in this city on March 13, 1830 and was married to General di Cesnola on June 11, 1861. She was the second daughter of Captain Samuel C. Reid, of this city, the hero of the naval battle of Fayal. Her grandfather was Lieutenant John Reid, of the British Navy, a lineal descendant of Henry Reid, Earl of Orkney.
Mme. Di Cesnola's father, Samuel C. Reid, was born at Norwich, Conn., in 1783. Captain died in 1861. His wife was Mary, daughter of Captain Nathan Jennings, of Wilmington, Conn., who fought at Lexington, at the battle of Trenton and other revolutionary engagements.
Two daughters were born to General and Mme. Di Cesnola, Eugenia Gavrielle and Louise Irene di Cesnola. Mme. Di Cesnola's sister is the widow of Dr. John Savage, the Irish poet. The funeral will take place to-morrow morning. The burial will be in Kensico Cemetery.
