Edmund Joseph Regan, 80, of Windsor passed away Thursday, (March 24, 2011) at Windsor Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Edmund was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Loretta (Vogeley) and Edmund J. Sr. of Westwood, NJ. He graduated from Westwood High School, participating in football, track and field sports. He received his Bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University and Masters degrees from George Washington University and Pepperdine University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for nearly 30 years and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his years of service he saw action in Korea and twice in Vietnam as a reconnaissance officer and served in Germany on the U.S. European Command staff. He was a Navy qualified diver and a Fort Benning trained parachutist. After retirement from the USMC , he worked in the Connecticut and the New Mexico prison industries as a consultant. He also worked for Constructive Workshops, a handicapped adult workplace in Newington, later becoming a tax preparer for H&R Block. Throughout his life, Ed was an avid downhill skier and scuba diver, enjoying many trips with his sons. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Helen (Weigelt) of Windsor, two sons, William and his wife Debra of Pasadena, CA, Richard and his wife Karen of Melbourne, FL and daughter Lynn and significant other, Dave Natale of Windsor, three grandchildren, Laura and Alexandra of Pasadena and Ryan of Melbourne. In addition he leaves three cousins, Elizabeth Bird of Cliffside Park, NJ, Alexander Vogeley of Valley Stream, NY and John Vogeley of Charlottesville, VA; sister-in-law Doris McPartland of Mays Landing, NJ; brother-in-law Frank Weigelt and his wife Virginia, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered fondly by friends from grammar school, high school, college, the USMC as well as by friends and neighbors here in CT. The family would like to thank all the staff at Windsor Rehab and Healthcare for their compassionate care of Ed.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor with calling hours from 3-6 p.m. prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Ed's name to the Disabled Americans Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cinncinati, OH 45250-0301 or the Paralyzed Veterans of America, National Headquarters, 801 Eighteenth Street NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517.
