Reverend Reeder was a US Army veteran of WWII and had been in the Baptist Ministry over 42 years, during which time he helped start three churches and pastored six churches in the Charlotte area. He served as pastor at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Concord, NC; Central Baptist Church in Indian Trail, NC; Oak Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC; and the Calvary Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC. Jay loved animals, especially cats and enjoyed all children. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing and being in God's great outdoors.
Reverend Reeder loved his God. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, Brother, grandfather and great-grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margaret Ford Reeder of Denver, NC; son, Michael Reeder of Pierre, SD, and wife Shelley; daughter, Brenda Johnson of Denver, NC; brothers, L R Reeder of Monroe, NC; Knearl Reeder of Lawton, OK; and Earl Reeder of Locust, NC. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Gina Green, LesLee Johnson, Tricia Reeder, Jason Reeder and Heather Reeder; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Bryce Hatch and Sean Green.
The family will receive friends at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service on Friday evening February 22, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Funeral service for Reverend Reeder will be held at Victory Baptist Church in Denver, NC, on Saturday, February 23, at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd., Charlotte/Mint Hill.
Memorials may be made to the Youth Group at Victory Baptist Church, 5974 King Wilkinson Rd., Denver, NC 28037, in memory of Reverend Jay Reeder.
