Mrs. Elise R. Averill and Mrs. Frank Cox were co-authors of "Hail to Arizona! The Sun-Kissed Land," the official anthem of the Territory of Arizona.

"Hail to Arizona! The Sun-Kissed Land" was Arizona's first State Song and was first sung in public on February 24, 1901 at the dedication ceremony of the Territorial Capitol. The Legislative Assembly of Arizona enacted Act No. 49, To Adopt a Territorial Anthem, on March 16, 1901. School District Trustees were required to distribute copies of the song to all school children in their districts to be learned and used as part of their musical curriculum.
