BURTON, S.C. -- Ben "Bobby" Reed Jr., 50, died May 31 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. He was born and educated in Beaufort. He was owner/operator of Reed's Construction Co. He worked in Beaufort and Jasper counties and extensively on Hilton Head Island.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Fredell Aiken Reed of Burton; a son, Ben Reed III of Burton; four daughters, Leigha Jacobs, Torshann Reed, Benita and Kendra Reed, all of Burton; his father, Ben Reed of Yemassee; his mother, Dorothy Simmons Reed of Early Branch; four sisters, Daisy Rohlsen of Early Branch, Gloria Conception and Margie Reed, both of New York City, and Inez Washington of Burton; five brothers, Willie and Erin Reed, both of New York City, John Reed of Indiana, James Reed of Early Branch and Fred Reed of Jacksonville, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Holiness Church in Stuart Point burial in Gray's Hill Cemetery. - Savannah Now, June 1999
