"Grandma " Redifer Passes Away After Long Illness
The funeral services for Mrs. Adella Redifer , age 77, were held Saturday afternoon, June 7, at the Community Church with Rev. Percy Arkle and Rev. L. S. Cox in charge. Mrs. Redifer is survived by three sons, J.C. of The Dalles, Laurie Bently of Redmond, and Arthur of California, and 10 grandchildren. Her husband, Robert Redifer preceded her in death seven years ago. Mrs. Redifer had been an invalid for a number of years and bore her suffering with great patience. She was a well read woman and remembered people and events up to her last sickness. She was loved by her neighbors and friends who always found her in a cheerful, happy mood. She and Mr. Redifer came to Oregon in covered wagons along with others over the Oregon Trail in 1894. Several wagons started from Missouri, but only two reached Oregon. The Redifers settled in the valley coming to central Oregon in 1915. Mrs. Redifer in telling of the trip to Oregon said it took them five months to cross the great plains into Oregon. The other wagons separated from them deciding to settle in Idaho as the trip had been so long. Mrs. Redifer's name before marriage was Adella Hayes, a distant relative of President Rutherford B. Hayes.
