Sgt. Blain E. Redding, 22, of Plattsmouth, Neb. died of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device June 7 in Konar, Afghanistan. He were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. He is the son of the Teresa Redding and Blaine "Pete" Redding, Blaine was raised and educated in Plattsmouth. In 2007 his brother and mother moved to Elmwood. After high school, Blain worked for John's Appliance in Plattsmouth before enlisting in the army. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. Blain and his brother, Logan, were deployed to Afghanistan in May 2010. He was previously deployed to Iraq in 2008-2009. He married Victoria "Nikki" Nichole Colwell on March 13, 2010. Survivors are Nikki Redding of Cross Plains, Tenn.; mother, Teresa Redding; father, Blaine "Pete" Redding, brother, Logan Redding, mother-in-law, Gina Cotton and husband, Michael, father-in-law, Roger Colwell, brothers-in-law, Brad Colwell, and John Colwell; maternal grandmother, Kay Cunningham, maternal aunt, Camilla Cunningham, maternal uncle, Dan Cunningham and wife, Patty, paternal uncle, James Redding and wife, Allison, two paternal Aunts, Karen Redding and Vicki Schafer, paternal step uncle, Roger Montgomery and wife, Barb, and paternal step aunt, Susie Harris. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, James Cunningham; paternal grandmother, Lois Redding; paternal grandfather, Edward I. and wife, Cora Redding; and paternal uncle, Kenneth Redding.
