Donald L. Rector, 95, Indianapolis, IN, went to be with his Savior on September 29, 2009 at 12:50pm Clarian West, in Avon.
He was born August 15, 1914 in Rockville, IN to John and Zelphia (Hungerford) Rector.
He graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical School. Donald worked for Wabash Fiber Box in Terre Haute retiring in 1976. He married Alma Edwards January 30, 1936. Before moving to Indianapolis to be closer to their daughter they lived in what they called "Paradise" in Fallen Rock, IN. Don and Alma were active in the Bridgeton Baptist Church and the East Glen Senior Citizens Group. Don lived during the depression era where he lived the adventures of traveling around the United States on Box Cars and living in CC Camps. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, fishing and hunting, walking, mushroom hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his sons Harold "Sonny" Rector and Donald "Shorty" Rector and a brother Norman Rector.
He is survived by his wife Alma; daughter Bonnie Krockenberger (Donald) of Brownsburg; grandchildren: Vicki Fudge, Lyla Snyder – Rector, Tamara Kear, Michelle Chess, Jason Krockenberger, Sarah Krockenberger, and Adam Krockenberger; six great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Marilyn Rector; Brother William Rector and sister Mary Emma Peebles as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, IN, Saturday, October 3, 2009, at 1:00 with John Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Saturday, October 3, 2009, from 11:00 - 1:00pm.
Should friends so desire donations may be made to the Gideon Bible fund in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
