At the time of his demise, he was a Midshipman 2nd class and was expected to graduate with the Class of 1932 upon completion of another year at the academy after rising to the rank of Midshipman 1st Class. Joseph died at the U.S. Naval Academy hospital (on the grounds of the school) in Annapolis, Md. of a heart ailment. He was given a full military ceremony prior to his remains being shipped back to his hometown of East St. Louis, Ill. There's scant details of where he was buried nor is there any record that he was buried at any veterans cemetery. So this is a 'best guess' based on many factors.

Note: special thanks to Find A Grave contributor Lois (Sandy) Walker (#47320508) for all her help, assistance, guidance, moral support, and oversight in gathering whatever data that could be found for this young officer.
