Sgt. Brandon Michael Read, 21, Greeneville, Tenn., was killed in action Sept. 6, 2004, while serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq.

Brandon's family has made the decision that he be laid to rest with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2014.

Brandon attended the DuBois Area School system from 1992-97. He was a 2001 graduate of Greeneville High School, Greeneville, Tenn.

Upon graduation from basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., he was attached to the 639th Transportation Company out of Kingsport, Tenn. During his first deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Brandon was a member of the 101st Airborne, Ft. Campbell, Ky. His second deployment had him assigned to the 125th Transportation Company out of Lexington, Ky.

He was killed in Qayyarah, Iraq when an IED was detonated by insurgents near a truck on which he was serving as a gunner.

Brandon is the son of former DuBois residents, Mike and Kelli Courtright Read who now reside in Greeneville, Tenn.; and the brother of Jaymon Read who resides in Acworth, Ga. He is the grandson of DuBois residents, Dick and Sandy Courtright, and former DuBois residents, Bill and Lula Read. He is the nephew of DuBois residents, Rick and Bridget Courtright and Dan Read, Mark and Rhonda Courtright Witherite of Bellefonte and Steve Read of Orange Park, Fla. He is also survived by several cousins and one niece.

Arrangements for the service in Arlington are under the direction of the Mohney-Yarger Funeral Chapel, DuBois.
