HEREFORD - Melva Ford, 87, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Central Church of Christ with Tom Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ford was born March 19, 1918, in Groom, the daughter of Annice and Claude Rea Sr. She married Jay Fortenberry on June 3, 1942, in Albuquerque, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1959. She married Bill Ford on Feb. 19, 1977, in Lubbock. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Ford graduated from West Texas State Teachers Collage with a master's degree in education. She retired after teaching school for more than 40 years in the Hereford and Walcott School System and was recognized as a very good teacher. She was in the farming and ranching business for many years. Mrs. Ford was a member of Hereford Retired School Employees Association and Hereford Central of Christ.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; a brother, J.K. Rea; a brother-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
Survivors include a son, Don Rea of Amarillo; two brothers, Harte "Tex" Rea of El Centro, Calif., and Claude Rea Jr. of Canyon; a sister, Vera Elizabeth Gray of Amarillo; four sisters-in-law, Mary Dorris of Clovis, N.M., Chloe Dowd of Laurel, Ind., Kate Bradley of Adrian and Alta Mae Higgins of Hereford; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
