Mrs. Margaret E. Puntch, our dearly beloved grandmother, departed this life September 26, 1905, to meet her loved ones that have gone before.
Grandmother was born in Rowan county, North Carolina, November 24, 1833. She was married to Thomas N. Puntch December 1, 1853. Their union was blessed with nine children, five sons and four daughters, of which one son and three daughters are left to mourn her departure. She was left a widow July 20, 1888, and came to Texas with her children in January, 1889. After Grandfatehr Puntch's death she made her home with her children and at the time of her death she was with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Troutman, at Jacksonville, Texas.
Her Christian experience began in her thorough regeneration in her early girlhood. She first jouned the Evangelical Lutherans. Soon after her marriage she went with her husband to the Presbyterians and held an unbroken
fealty to her Christian experience to the moment of her departure. Grandmother was truly a Christian woman, often being heard to say she was ready for the summons. She tried to instruct those about her and prayed for all, and especially her own. In the absence of her pastor the services were conducted by Revs. Downs and Parks, who read from Psalms 46:1-5, 91:1-9, and sang hymns, "Asleep in Jesus" and "Rock of Ages." Grandmother left two brothers -John T. Raymer, of Statesville, N.C. and J. Nat Raymer, of Rusk, Texas; three sisters and one sister-in-law - Mrs. Bettie Brady, Mrs. Sarah Sherrill, Mrs. Mary Fry, and Mrs. Laura Raymer, all of whom live in Shiloh township, Iredell County, N.C. One son, three daughters and 22 grandchildren also survive with many friends to mourn her departure. In her last days she suffered much, yet it was all borne with patience and without a murmur. She has left us and gone before. Her place at church and home is vacant now.
May we ever live so as to follow her through the pearly gates into the New Jerusalem.
