FREDERICK F. RAY
Fort Wayne resident, Frederick F. Ray, 63, a native of Adams County, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne after a long illness.
He was born in Monroe on February 19, 1919 to J. Forest and Lessie Watkins Ray and was a longtime member of the Fort Wayne Fire Department, retiring in 1974 with the rank of captain. He was head of the department's fire prevention unit. After leaving the fire department, he worked for the Indiana highway department until 1980.
Mr. Ray was a member of the Crescent Ave. United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne, Maumee Lodge 715 of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite, the Shriners, and the St. Joe Athletic Club in Fort Wayne.
He married the former Margaret Wert in Kentucky of September 1, 1940; she survives.
Also surviving are a son, James K. Ray of Lyman, Wyoming; a daughter, Barbara A. Johnson of Fort Wayne; a brother, Harold Ray of Lakeside, California; two sisters - both of Monroe - Dortha Hirschy and Helen Parrish and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the D. O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Chapel, the Rev. Marvin Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.
Visiting hours at the funeral home are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
