TOPPENISH - Charles B. "Chuck" Ray, Jr. (93) longtime Satus area cattle rancher passed away Thursday November 2, 2006. He was born in Othello on August 8, 1913 to Charles and Lily (Irby) Ray, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and on January 19, 1945 married Jean Foster in Toppenish. They ranched on the Satus until retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Logy Creek Cattle Assn., Tri-Pomona Grange, Washington Cattlemans Assn., Toppenish Historical Society, and was a 50-plus year member of the Alfalfa Grange #960. He enjoyed his grandchildren, cattle, and riding horses.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean at the family home; one daughter, Marcy (Ray) Hull of Granger; one son, David (Becky) Ray of Goldendale; six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, five special great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Ray of Sunnyside; two sisters, Sadie Kearl of Toppenish and Pearl Ermey of Montesano; one sister-in-law, Ruth Ray of Sunnyside. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 PM until 5 PM at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday November 7, 2006 at 11 AM at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Zillah City Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Childrens Miracle Network c/o Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Colonial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
