Howard Ellis Ray, 90, of Nashville, died Tuesday January 5, 2016 in the Langdale Hospice House.

He was born January 8, 1925 in Berrien County to the late Charles Clinton Ray and the late Mamie Lee Cersey Ray. He was founder and chairman of the board of the Howard Ray Construction Co. and a pecan farmer. He was an Army Veteran of WWII; member, deacon and Sunday school teacher of the First Baptist Church of Ray City for over 70 years; former member and chairman of the Berrien County Board of Education. He was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy Faye Pierce; 3 sisters: Carrie Lanier, Louise Morris and Hazel Barker; 2 brothers: C.H. Ray and Elby Ray.

He is survived by 3 sons: Gregg (Lora) Ray of Nashville, Clinton (Betty) Ray of Nashville and Mitch (Judith) Ray of Valdosta; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Jessie Hudson of Valdosta.

Funeral services were held Friday January 8, 2016 at 11 AM in the First Baptist Church of Ray City with the Rev. Robbie Peay, Rev. Bob Pierce and Rev. Michael Lewis officiating. Interment was in the Beaver Dam Cemetery. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements
