Sgt Edward Allen "J.R." Rawls
Birth: Nov. 23, 1967
San Diego
San Diego County
California, USA
Death: Feb. 7, 1990, Germany

Beloved son of Gloria Rawls Whittington (1948-present) and George Rawls. Brother of Loretta (1964-present), Jarmal (1969-present), Pamela (1971-present), George (1973-present), and Brandy (1976-present). Grandson of Mary Lee Taylor (1928-1998), Great-Grandson of Ida "Big Mama" Williams (1911-1994). He is missed and loved by all who knew him. J.R. Loved music, and loved to dance, but most importantly, he loved making people laugh. He was the funniest person I ever met. After High School he joined the Army. My J.R. was a Sargent in the U.S. Army, and was Stationed in Germany. On February 7, 1990 I was leaving for work and I got a call it was J.R. He said mom I just called to tell you "I Love You." J.R. and his friends were on their way to the airport to go on leave that night when a drunk driver going 110 Mph on the Auto Bahn hit his car. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, by the time a policeman got to him it was too late some drunk killed my darling son, my best friend, his last word was "Ma" (his name for me). The driver and the other surviving passangers in J.R.'s car were left paralyzed. The drunk only required stitches. The next day there was a chaplin and two soliders at my job, I did not know if it was my son or daughter Jarmal, both of them were in the army. Then I heard the line "Gloria Rawls, on behalf of the President of the United States I regret to inform you that you son," after my son I screamed, "Not my son, my best friend, the love of my life, he can't be gone. His Laugh, his smile, his big green eyes, these are the things I miss. I Love you J.R.
Ma

Should you go first and I remain
To walk the road alone
I'll live in memories' garden
With happy days we've known.

In spring I'll wait for roses red,
When faded, the lilacs blue;
In early fall when brown leaves fall,
I'll catch a glimpse of you.

Should you go first and I remain,
For battles to be fought,
Each thing you've touched along the way,
Will be a hallowed spot.

I'll hear the bark, I'll see your smile,
Though blindly I may grope,
The memory of your helping paws
Will buoy me on with hope.

Should you go first and I remain
One thing I'll have to do,
Walk slowly down that long path
For soon I'll follow you.

I want to know each step you take
So I may take the same,
For someday down that lonely road
You'll hear me call your name.
