Dorothy Jean (Raup) Booth
LPN formerly worked at area nursing facilities
Dorothy Jean (Raup) Booth, 91, of 213 Mill St., Orangeville, died Saturday evening, Oct. 21, 2006, at the Bloomsburg Hospital, where she had been admitted earlier in the evening after being stricken ill at her home.
Born March 26, 1915, in Lightstreet, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Ada F. (Henrie) Raup. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archibald G. "Archie" Booth, on Dec. 29, 1976, and by a grandson, Eric M. Sherlinski, on April 25, 1990.
In her younger years, Mrs. Booth had worked for the telephone office in Orangeville and later became an LPN and had worked for the former Ipher Nursing Home, McCarthy Nursing Home and then the Klingerman Nursing Home, in Orangeville. She retired in 1991 with 35 years of service.
She was a 1932 graduate of the Orangeville Normal School.
Mrs. Booth was an active member of the Orangeville United Church where she was a member of the Women's Guild.
She had served as Judge of Elections for Orangeville Borough for 70 years. She had also been a member of the Orangeville Civic Club for more than 50 years.
In her younger years, she was active with the Girl Scouts and especially involved with the annual cookie sales.
She enjoyed going out to eat, shopping and loved to sit on her porch during the Orangeville Carnival to watch the people go by.
Surviving are her three daughters: Barbara Longenberger and her husband, Elmer, of Barbours; Martha Jane Hartzel and her husband, James, of Bloomsburg; and Lynn Sherlinski and her husband, Mark, of Orangeville. Also surviving are her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Orangeville United Church, Main Street, Orangeville, with the Rev. Darryl E. Kensinger, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Orangeville United Church, Orangeville, PA 17859.
Arrangements are under the direction of the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton.
