Lifetime Port Washington resident and daughter of the founder of Ewig Bros, Fisheries, Elsie Rathke died Monday, Sept. 10 at St. Alphonsus Hospital. She was 77. She lived at 234 S. Webster St., Port Washington.
Mrs. Rathke was born Mar. 19, 1896 in Port Washington, the daughter of Gust and Emma Kutz Ewig. In May, 1919 she married Walter Rathke of Grafton in ceremonies at Port Washington. Mr. Rathke was the originator of the Port Washington Truck Line in partnership with the recently deceased Walter Ohm.
Mrs. Rathke is a former employee of the now defunct Port Washington Herald as a printer. And she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington.
She is survived by her husband, Walter, one son, Clifford (June) of Port Washington; and five grandchildren.
Two brothers, Herbert and Elmer Ewig preceded her in death.
Funertal services will be today, Thursday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. from the Poole Funeral Home to St., John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Edgar Greve will officiate with services for Mrs. Rathke, and burial will be in the Union Cemetery.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
