Marjorie Emerson, 86, was called home by her Savior to join her beloved son and waiting family on May 24, 2009.
She was born in Eau Claire on August 6, 1922, to the late Arthur and Marie Rathke.
She was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Marge graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1940 and began working for Ed Phillips and Sons Distributing with her sister.
She and her sister worked on the home front during World War II, volunteering as a nurse's aid at Luther Hospital.
Before her marriage to Arnold Emerson in 1949, she and Ruth had many adventures, including a trip to New York City.
Marge considered her greatest blessing to be her relationship with her son, Mike, who remained close to her heart even after his death 15 years ago.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and always had a lively story to tell. Marge was a loyal friend who was always ready to help those who needed it the most.
She had a gift of befriending people and maintaining those true friendships throughout life.
She considered work to be a source of enjoyment and spent most of her life employed. She worked many years doing clerical work at Hobbes Supply Company.
When it was time to "retire," she began working with the Green Thumb organization and the YMCA in Chippewa Falls, where she met her great friend, Sue.
Marge valued her independence and lived on her own until the last seven weeks of her life.
She maintained her mischievous sense of humor to the end and was a joy to be around.
Marge is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jim and Jean Rathke, Tom and Barb Rathke, Debra and Larry Frazier, Rick and Gloria Rathke, and Dan and Karrie Haugen, among others.
She has numerous great-nieces and nephews, several cousins and many close friends.
Marge was preceded in death by her loving son, Michael; and her husband, Arnold. She is also preceded in death by her parents; her sister- and brother-in-law, Ruth and Alfred Haugen; brother- and sister-in-law, Charles and Dorothy Rathke; Arnold's parents and brothers; and her dear friend, Virginia.
A memorial service will be on Monday, June 1, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire.
Friends may call an hour prior to the service at the church.
