Evelyn Rasmussen Ballinger, age 73, died Saturday, April 27, 2002 in Woods Cross, Utah. She was born June 22, 1928 to Loran J. and Adelia Gibson Rasmussen. She spent her childhood in So. Idaho, graduating from Grace High School in 1946.
She then came to Salt Lake City to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She was a graduate of the LDS Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. She worked for many years at LDS Hospital as a nurse anesthetist in the OB department. Later she worked at Cottonwood Hospital in the same department. She loved what she did and so did the new mothers.
Evelyn married George Ruddy Ballinger, November 25, 1950 in Elko, Nevada. They moved to Woods Cross in 1953, and it has been home ever since. Our neighbors and friends are family. She dearly loved them.
Evelyn was a woman of many talents; knitting tiny baby booties, crocheting and making chili sauce are just a few. But the one special talent we will all miss is her listening ear and closed mouth. She is a true friend.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ann and Ted Van den Akker, Magna. Grandchildren Mandi and Chad Knaras, Lex and Julie Konishi, Riley, Andy (serving an LDS mission), Patrick and Jacob Van den Akker. Great-grandchildren Isaak, Alexander, and Elena Knaras and Jaxon Konishi. Her brother and sister-in-law Gene and Arty Rasmussen, Grace, ID; sister Helen R. Horsley, Pocatello, ID; Rud's sister and her husband Ella and Fred Hine, Boise, Id; and many nieces and nephews who will miss Aunt Evelyn. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, oldest daughter and son-in-law Becky and Larry Konishi and brother-in-law Allan Horsley.
Graveside services will be Thursday May 2, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd., Taylorsville.
