Melva Rasbury Durrett passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009, at age 93. She was born and raised in Simsboro, Lincoln Parish, and resided in Shreveport from 1951 until 1977 when she moved to Baton Rouge. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Durrett and John Jones McConnell, of Baton Rouge; grandson, Dr. Douglas M. McConnell and wife Laura and two great-grandsons, James Mitchell and John O'Brien McConnell, all of Columbia, S.C. Preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Lamar Durrett; parents, Allen L. and Pearl Boddie Rasbury; three brothers and a sister. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She loved to garden, read and follow the LSU Tigers. Visiting at First United Methodist Church, Aldrich Chapel, on Monday, July 13, from 1 p.m. until a 2 p.m. service. Graveside service at Simsboro Cemetery, Simsboro, on Tuesday, July 14, at 10 a.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews. The family wishes to express appreciation to Sallie Johnson and Martha Hill for their dedicated and caring service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 930 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
