---------Ransom, Benjamin (? 2 OCT 1902)
Benjamin Ransom, son of Mrs. Calvin Mills of Christie, Clark County, died in the hospital at Mackay, Idaho Oct. 2, 1902, of typhoid fever. He was born at Campbellsport, Wis. and came with his parents to Christie in 1870. He was one of the pupils of the first school taught there. He lived the life of the young men of his day, farming in summer and working in camp in the winter. In the spring of 1886 he stated out from home to seek his fortune, going to Glenwood and afterward to Hayward, remaining several months at each place. In the spring of 1887 he went to Cinnabar, Mont., where his brother Fay was in the mercantile business, going into partnership with him. He remained in Montana fourteen years, being successful in several branches of business. In 1900 he went to Mackay, Idaho, where he resided until his death. The best of medical skill and care were provided for him but without avail. He was a man of many good qualities, just and generous and died as he had lived, with no enemies. He was buried under the auspices of the Mackay mining Union, of which he was a member, the services taking place in the M.E. Church and the burial being in the cemetery at Mackay.

Memorial services were held at the Christie Church Sunday Oct. 19, and were largely attended by a large circle of friends. He was converted and died a Christian, sending assuring messages to his mother and thanking her for all she had done.
