Lafonda Ann Davis died peacefully on May 4, 2010 at her home in Austin, Texas. She was loved by all because of the kindness and generosity she showed to friends, family, and strangers. Her spirited personality and endless reservoir of generosity made an impression on this world and she will be forever missed.

Lafonda Ann Randolph was born on April 16, 1942 in Bowie, Texas to Uriel Addison Randolph and Vannie Lee Culpepper. She was raised in nearby Montague, Texas where her father ran a horticultural experiment station for Texas A&M University. Her exposure to his work at an early age developed in her a love of plants and gardening that would last a lifetime.

As a child she attended public schools in Saint Jo, Nocona, and Bowie, graduating from Bowie High School. She then attended North Texas State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Education degree. She became a committed lifelong teacher and spent her career instructing children in locations throughout the world. The final decades of her career were spent teaching in the Fairfax County, Virginia public schools. Because of her commitment to childhood literacy she pushed her students, her children, and her grandchildren to learn to read from an early age.

She married Carl David Clark of Sherman, Texas and they began a life traveling the world together as he served in the United States Air Force. She remembered their travels fondly and continued to enjoy traveling throughout her life. Together, they raised three children. Carl preceded her in death in 1996.

In 1998, she married Jim Davis of Herndon, Virginia and they moved to Austin in 2005. She believed in strong families and worked tirelessly to show each of their seven children and ten grandchildren the love and support of family and the joy that comes through shared holidays and events. Christmas was her favorite holiday and the event that gathered them together every year. At the time of her passing, she was still nurturing and enjoying the potted poinsettias that had served as part of the family's last Christmas with her.

For more than twenty years, she was a member of the Fairfax Church of Christ in Fairfax, Virginia. After moving to Austin, she was a member of the Westover Hills Church of Christ where she and her husband had become active in that church's ministry and activities. She was a committed Christian and she was confident in the promises offered in her faith.

Lafonda loved to sing and was a member of several ensembles including the "Sweet Spirit Singers". She found great joy in this artistic outlet and sharing her love of the Lord with others through the inspirational gospel music they performed. Throughout her battle with Carcinoid cancer, Lafonda's strength and resilience were unending. She exhibited a confidence and elegance that was inspiring to all of those around her.

Lafonda was loved by many, most especially those who survive her including her husband Jim Davis; her children: Jeffrey David Clark of Austin, Shannon Lee Gatlin of Austin, and Tamara Ann Egli of Huntsville, Alabama; her stepchildren: Angelia Kay Davis of Centreville, Virginia, Michelle Ann Hitti of Herndon, Virginia, Eric Lynn Davis of Reston, Virginia, and Chad Allen Davis of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and her sister, Virginia Lee Pollard, of Midland, Texas. Lafonda was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 9th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Boulevard in Austin. A memorial service will be held at Westover Hills Church of Christ at 8332 Mesa Drive on Monday, May 10th at 2:00 pm. Lafonda will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with an additional memorial service to be held in Virginia to provide an opportunity for her family to remember and honor Lafonda with her many friends there.

Memorials may be sent to the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation, www.carcinoid.org.
