Rev. Boyd was born Dec. 13, 1931 in Tobaccoville, a daughter of the late Sidney and Maylor Speas Randleman. After many years as a homemaker, she entered the workforce as a teacher's assistant at Florence Elementary School. She was a faithful member at Turners Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she enjoyed working with the children, especially during Vacation Bible School. There, also, she was received into Christian Ministry and ordained as a Local Deacon. Fraternally, she was a member of Rose of Florence Chapter 550, Order of Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Ozzie and Sidney Dallas Randleman, and one sister, Betty Randleman Simpson.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Reuben J. Boyd, Sr. of the home; seven children, Bonnie (Preston) Mingo of El Paso, Texas, Rev. Reuben J. (Sonja) Boyd, Jr., Phyllis (Donald) Denny, Enice (Reginald) Ingram, Maylor Keither Strickland, Larry R. Boyd, and Beverly (David) Gibson; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Eddie Mae Greene of Greensboro, NC, Grace (Rev. Johnnie G.) Boyd of High Point, NC, Lester (Alberta) Randleman of Greensboro, NC, William and Joseph Randleman, both of East Orange, NJ; one aunt, Lillian Speas; honorary mother and grandmother, Mrs. Allie Marsh; god-son, Rev. Michael A. Dunn, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 23, 2008 at Turners Chapel AME Church, 7615 Florence School Rd., with Rev. W.E. Diggs officiating, and Rev. Reuben J. Boyd, Jr. eulo-gist. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. Family visitation will be at the church Thurs., 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., and other times at the residence.
