Barbara was born in South Portland on April 3, 1933 a daughter of the late John E. & Evelyn (Smith) Stuart. She obtained her High School diploma through Biddeford Adult Education and then went on to earn her CNA license.
She spent most of her nursing career at the Barron Center, retiring in 1994. After retirement she did some private home care and was even a crossing guard for the South Portland School System up until less than two months ago when her illness no longer allowed her to perform her duties.
Barbara was a thirty six year member of AA, she also was a caregiver to her grandchildren whom she treated like her own children. Her devotion to Emily, James, and Olivia was extraordinary, traveling throughout New England to attend whatever school and sporting events that they were participating in. She enjoyed watching the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox along with knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and playing on the iPad. She also loved to spend time at Bug Light in South Portland.
VNA Hopspice of Maine made the last few weeks of Barbara's life dignified and as full as they could be under the difficult circumstances. She enjoyed her life to its fullest right up to the moment of her passing.
She is survived by her daughter Theresa L. Randall and her companion Kevin J. Welch of South Portland, her grandchildren Emily L., James R. and Olivia D. Ledue, her two sisters Mary Bailey of the Sanford, Maine area and Dorothy Korimilis and her brother Norman Stuart as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Linda Burtasket and Stanley Burtasket and the sister of the late Russell Junco, Donald Stuart, Harold Stuart, Gloria Stuart, Ronald Stuart and Stephen Stuart. She also leaves a son John Orland Burtasket, whose whereabouts are unknown.
