Katherine ("Kay") Ramsay Blyth, formerly of Wayne, Pa, died peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2011, at Park Lane, Bellingham Retirement Center, West Chester, PA.
Born in San Francisco, CA on February 6, 1929, Kay was the youngest daughter of the late Charles R. and Katherine Ramsay Blyth, formerly of Hillsborough.
She attended the Branson's School in Ross, CA and Smith College in Massachusetts from which she graduated in 1951. After graduation, she moved to New York City where she earned a Master's in Christian education at a graduate program run by Teachers College and Union Theological Seminary. She then returned to Smith College where for two years she was employed by the Episcopalian church as a counselor to Smith College undergraduates. From Smith she moved first to Wilmington, Delaware, and then to Toledo, Ohio, to continue her work for the Episcopal Church. In 1959 she moved to Philadelphia where she has lived ever since. Hearty, intelligent, sometimes feisty, Kay was a courageous woman who spoke her own mind. She will be remembered for her dry wit and sense of humor about herself and for her kind and gentle attention to children and animals.
Kay is survived by her sisters, Marjorie Bell and Barbara Coghlan from California, her brother Charles Blyth, and ten nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be held on Friday, January 21, 11 AM, in the Chapel of Church of the Good Samaritan, 212 W. Lancaster Avenue, Paoli, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Philadelphia Zoo, 3400 W. Girard Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19104-1196.
