SCOTTSBLUFF -- A funeral for Henry R. Raines, 84, of 1413 Ave. F, Scottsbluff, who died Sunday in his home, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Jolliffe Funeral Home at Scottsbluff with the Rev. Melvon Ireland officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Gering with graveside rites by Scottsbluff Elks Lodge No. 1367.
Memorials have been established to Elks National Foundation Fund and Golden Rule Sunday School.
He was born September 4, 1896, at Garland, Texas, where he grew up and lived until 1917 when he moved to Bridgeport. He married Virginia A. Acker at Bridgeport on July 28, 1923. He had worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and on a ranch before working as a mechanic for the Clemens Chevrolet Garage at Bridgeport in 1940.
They moved to Scottsbluff in 1949. He worked for Neilson-Schreiner Chevrolet Garage at Gering until 1958 at which time he began work at WNX Trucking Co. as a mechanic and shop foreman until his retirement in 1976.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Golden Rule Sunday School Class, Elks, Royal Neighbors Lodge No. 4587, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 260 and Seniors YMCA Swim Club.
Survivors include his wife; son Bob of Raleigh, N.C., daughter Mrs. Millie Miller of Scottsbluff; brother W.C. of Vernon, Texas; sisters Pearl Whatley, Ethel Ashworth, Alberta Cook, Elsie Lemon, Roxie Garriet and Mamie Wilkinson, all of Vernon, and Opal Cook of Anaheim, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
