Martha K. Rothe, age 91, a Milwaukee resident, originally from El Paso, Texas,
died Thursday morning, June 26, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital, Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2003, at St. Anne
Catholic Church, Francis Creek. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial
will be the Rev. Theodore Hendricks with burial at Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
She was born Nov. 7, 1911, in the town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County, daughter
of the late Michael and Anna Steeber Baumann. Martha grew up and received her
first education in a one-room schoolhouse in the town of Franklin. She graduated
from Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1929. Martha received a teaching
degree from the Normal School and taught grade school for four years. In 1946,
she married George Rothe in California. He preceded her in death in 1977. Martha
was a secretary for the United States Government in El Paso, Texas, for many
years.
Survivors include one sister: Bernice Stein, Waukesha; and three brothers and
sisters-in-law: Victor and Florence Baumann, Whitelaw; Reuben and Joan Baumann,
Milwaukee; and Herbert and Marion Baumann, Sheboygan. Also surviving are 13 nieces
and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by two
brothers: Michael and Ervin Baumann; and four sisters: Mildred Baumann, Ida Flasch,
Esther Gulledge and Olive Anderson.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis
Creek, from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service at 11 a.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family
with funeral arrangements.
