Janet Quinney Lawson 1922 ~ 2008 Janet Quinney Lawson, 86, died unexpectedly on Christmas night at her home.Janet was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 1st, 1922 to S. J. and Jessie E. Quinney. She married the late Frederick R. Lawson in 1944; they were later divorced. They had three children. Janet was well-known throughout the community as a supporter of many projects and organizations. She was an avid skier and a huge supporter of the Olympics when they were held in Salt Lake in 2002. Many Utah arts organizations benefited from her support, and her long association with the Girl Scouts was of particular delight to her. She was also a keen supporter of the Zoo and its programs. During her life she served on many boards and organizations giving not only her time, but also financial support. Janet's love of the outdoors was exemplified by her golfing days at the Country Club; she was a pioneer in running the rivers of the Western U.S.; and she supported many projects that help everyone appreciate the wonderful natural beauty of this state. Throughout her long life Janet spent the summers at the family home on Bear Lake. This brought her great joy, and Bear Lake and the slopes of Alta were very dear to her. Both these places brought her in contact with friends and family. Janet is survived by her two sons, Frederick Q. Lawson and Peter Q. Lawson (Anne Wilson). Her daughter Joanne, died several years before. She is survived by nine grandchildren, Ellen Rossi (Chris), Erik Erlingsson (Uzo), Mathieu Shrontz (Taylor), Tatiana, Marina, Alexander, Stewart, Bates and Theodore Lawson, and one nephew David Quinney (Shari) and their children, David E. Quinney, III and Lee Quinney. She is also survived by five cousins. The family would like to express its thanks and appreciation to Celeste and Sonia for the wonderful care and companionship they gave to Janet over the past several years. Scott Chaffin helped Janet with many projects over the years. The family gives him special thanks as well. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark's Cathedral, 231 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday, Dec 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the Salt Lake Country Club. In lieu of flowers please consider a contribution to the charity of your choice.
