Mrs. Heidecker Met Death in Highway Crash
Two Cars Collide, Then Roll Into Ditch Causing Death of Mrs. Heidecker; Funeral Services Held at Estherville
(Estherville Daily News)
One death, a reckless driving charge, and several minor injuries resulted from five automobile accidents in this vicinity over the Labor Day week end. Mrs. Minnie Heidecker, 55, of Wallingford, was killed early Saturday evening.
The fatality occurred at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, when automobiles driven by Charles Levell and Clarence Schroeder rolled into a ditch after smashing together on a country road intersection four miles north and one-half mile east of Gruver. Mrs. Minnie Heidecker, riding with Levell, was killed instantly when her head was crushed as the car rolled over. In some way Mrs. Heidecker had fallen from the car and the car rolled over on her, crushing her head.
Levell was injured only slightly and Schroeder was unhurt. Levell was taken to the Coleman hospital and released after he was given medical attention.
Levell was driving west, with the sun in his eyes, when the accident occurred, officers said. Schroeder was driving sough. View at the corner was partly obstructed by corn, it was reported. Levell's car hit Schroeder's automobile back of the right rear wheel, Sheriff Fredericksen said.
Funeral services for Mrs. Heidecker were held in Estherville. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. The Rev. G.E. Forssell conducted services and a Wallingford choir sang special music.
Mrs. Heidecker [Minnie Quincy] was born April 4, 1890, in Kansas. She is survived by three sons, Romaine, Albert and John all of Wallingford. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, September 4, 1941)
