Ada Quiett made her career in the department store business in Kansas City, Missouri. She started as a clerk and worked her way up. She later was a department head, and then served as a buyer for the store. Two of the stores she worked for were the Emery, Bird, & Thayer Dry Goods Store, and Harzfelds.

"-the famous Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store, which evolved under its owners to sell dry goods for more than a century here. It closed in 1968, and the landmark building was demolished in 1971."
