John T. Quick, 88, of Ashland, passed away Thursday afternoon at Saint Catherine Medical Center Fountain Springs .
Born in Fountain Springs, July 11, 1923, he was a son of the late John and Pearl Rhoades Quick.
He attended the former Butler Township High School, Fountain Springs, and served in the Army during World War II
He was employed as an independent coal miner, and also as a mechanic and welder for Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co., Frackville, and Cummings Diesel Engines, Ashland, prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Christ Congregational Church, Fountain Springs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona M. Quick, in June 2008; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Quick, in January 2007; brothers, Ross, Emerson, Leslie and Wilmer Quick; and sisters, Ann Atow, Margaret Helwig and Violet Helwig.
Surviving are sons, John Quick and his wife, Ada, Ivan Quick and his wife, Sandy, and Barry Quick, all of Ashland; a sister, Stella Bolich, Mowry; a brother, Clair Quick and his wife, Katie, Ashland; grandchildren, Denise, wife of Melvin Mastishin, Ivan Quick, Brian Quick, husband of Stacey, John Quick, husband of Betty, Jason Quick, husband of Shelia, and Barry Quick.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland, officiated by the Rev. Donald Snyder, pastor. Interment with military honors will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday. Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, is in charge of arrangements.
