Gene went home to be with his Creator on Nov 25, 2010. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his journey of 96 years on Monday at 2 p.m. in the W.W. Rix Chapel. Rix Funeral Directors will be open at 9 a.m. this morning and the family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
On Oct. 9, 1914, a sweet spirit and strong-willed religious individual was born in Atoka, OK to the late Mr. & Mrs. A.E. Quest, Sr. From his parents, Gene was a descendant of Norwegian Eric the Red and author Dr. Clements Moore who wrote "The Night Before Christmas." Gene graduated from Amarillo High School in 1934. His education continued at West Texas State University where he graduated in 1939 with a degree in Business. It was here that he started the Opportunity Scholarship Plan with Buff Morris. He went on to be appointed to the Board of Regents in 1968.
This elegant gentleman was married to the late Audrey Anna (Bell) Quest on June 30, 1944. They danced together for 57 years until her death in 2002. Dr. Quest was a very service-minded person in business and other organizations, as shown by his numerous awards. Gene was well known for his passion for golf. He was still using his known putting skills at the age of 96. His other passion was the Quest Tree Grove in Buddy Holly Park, where adults and children alike could enjoy the beauty.
Survivors include his son, Art; daughter, Jeanie; brother, Ralph Quest, Sr.; and numerous other relatives.
The family wishes a very special "Thank You" to all of the medical professionals in 96 years of treatment of their father. Memorials may be made to the Quest Fund Opportunity Plan or the Dolter/Quest Music Foundation. To leave on-line condolences, please visit www.rixfd.com.
