Herman Quarles Sr.

Services are pending at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel for Herman Quarles Sr., 72, 1239 Boswell, who died Thursday, June 19, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Quarles was retired from the Topeka Veterans Administration Hospital building maintenance department. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater.

He was born Aug. 13, 1913, at Marlin, Texas, the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Smith Quarles.
Mr. Quarles was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church and Philip Billard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1650 at Topeka.

His wife, Mrs. Elaine Northington Quarles, survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Peggy Dickerson, Omaha, Neb.; three sons, Herman Quarles Jr., Melvin Quarles and Thomas Quarles, all of Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Demmie Goodlow, Gary, Ind., and Mrs. Carrie Strother, Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Edgar Quarles, Gary, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
