Lucile was born April 29, 1912, in Mackinaw to Ralph and Stella Speece Puterbaugh. She married Howard T. McConkey on June 16, 1935, in Mackinaw. He preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1985.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Frank; one sister, Doreen Sparks; and one granddaughter, Leslie McConkey.
Lucile graduated valedictorian from Mackinaw Township High School. She then continued her education and graduated from Brown's Business College in Peoria.
Lucile was a lifelong member of the Mackinaw Christian Church, Mackinaw Eastern Star, Mackinaw Home Bureau, Mackinaw Garden Club, EOW Bridge Club, and was one of the founders of the Mackinaw Women's Club.
Lucile worked at the Insurance Exchange Company in Chicago in early years. During WWII, she helped build aircraft engines for General Electric. Lucile and her husband, Howard, then worked together in various businesses, including the Mackinaw IGA and Mackinaw Advertising Company.
Four and a half years ago, Lucile moved to the Tyler, Texas, area to be with her daughter and son-in-law. She enjoyed spending the summers with family and friends at Relatives Roost. It was her family's summer retreat in Bemidji, Minn.
Lucile loved to give and to do for others using her special gift of hospitality. We celebrate her life and know she will be missed by all her family and the many people whose lives she touched with kindness. She is now at peace with her Lord.
